Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s–1970s

Reverse appliqué, appliqué, and hand-embroidered mola panel depicting the biblical narrative of David and Goliath, inscribed “DAVID Y GOLIat” in polychrome appliqué lettering across the upper left, executed in three layers of burgundy, black, and orange cotton. The composition features three finely rendered figures: David at left in a striped tunic with raised sling, a smaller armored soldier at center holding a spear and round shield with blue cross, and the towering Goliath at right in elaborate layered armor with cross-hatched breastplate and sheathed sword at his back. Faces, hands, and legs are rendered in white cotton with detailed hand-embroidered features including stippled skin, facial expressions, and laced sandals. The background field is densely filled with polychrome heart-shaped and triangular appliqué motifs in blue, green, yellow, pink, and orange. Botanical elements including flowering plants and a stylized stone appear at lower left.
