Description
Antique c1850 Mary Stouffer PA Quilt measuring 88×91″. It is comprised of 16 blocks, 13.5×13.5″, set on point, 4 by 4, with solid white alternating squares and setting triangles with 4.5″ wide vertical white borders and 7″ horizontal borders. It is hand pieced, hand embroidered. and densely hand quilted. This cotton batting and a white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied red binding, most likely a later replacement. On the lower right corner is hand embroidered Mary R Stouffer 1850. I believe the design is original: a red 4 petal flower with leaves and stylized buds. The consignor has provided a genealogy of the Stouffer Family Tree. The quilt may have been made in Punxsutawney or Philadelphia, PA. Condition report:
In good condition with small discolorations and the blue print fabric is beginning to pop. The edge is finished with an applied red binding, most likely a later replacement. US Shipping $30
