Description
Antique English Medallion Mosaic Quilt, possibly from England, late 19th century. It measures 74 by 78 inches. It is comprised entirely of hexagons, about three quarters of an inch along one side. Color and fabric placement creates the medallion style arrangement. Fabrics are mostly red prints, blue prints, pink prints, and many shirtings including conversational fabrics. The conversational prints in this quilt include birds, men on horses, the Eiffel Tower, figures, the profile of an African man, horseshoes, parrots, and much more. I believe many of the fabrics are English. It is hand pieced. There is no batting, and no quilting, but a lovely bright bird print on the reverse. The edge is finished with a red twill fabric binding. The red twill fabric can be found in many of the hexagon rosette centers. It is in good condition with only some fading and minor discolorations.
