Description
Pair of Late 19th Century Skirts. The group includes 2 late 19th century skirts featuring 1 dusty rose colored wool crepe skirt with a multitude of horizontal, vertical, and angled pickups and embellished with 8 handmade ivory lace appliques in floral scrollwork motifs. The skirt has a grey cotton waistband with hook and eye closures at the back, as well as no lining. Laying flat it measures: waist 12”, front length: 37.5”, back length 45”. It is in fair condition with several holes in the wool crepe and toning to the lace appliques. Also included is 1 simple black silk skirt with a ruffled flounce at the hem. It has a back facing hook and eye closure with an inked label with the last name Hess. The bottom of the skirt has an inner flounce made of black silk with a black chintz ruffle. Laying flat it measures: waist: 11.5”, front length: 38”, back length: 44.5”. It is in fair/poor condition with a few faint spots, tears at the waist. The silk is very brittle and delicate, this would make a great reference piece. If you have any doubt, please ask questions!
