Description
Pair of Late 19th Century Velvet Bodices. The pairing includes 2 late 19th century bodices featuring 1 fuchsia velvet bodice trimmed in black floral lace at the front and cuffs with a standing collar and front insert of net lace over white silk. As well as pink velvet trim at the collar and cuffs with 3 thin pink velvet bands near the waist with small oval gold tone buckles. It is lined in a striking ice blue printed cotton sateen with black stays and a black inner waistband. Laying flat it measures: bust 15”, waist: 11.5”, sleeves: 22”. It is in fair condition with toning and spots to the lace and silk backing, wear to the velvet pile, small hole/tear on the left sleeve. Also included is 1 late 19th century pigeon chested brown velvet bodice by the Gimbel Brothers featuring extensive ribbon work in a intertwined figure 8 and clover at the shoulders and down the front with 3 graduated bands of brown silk ribbon at the collar. As well as a Battenburg lace yolk and standing collar trimmed in a short starched muslin ruffle. It has hook and eye closures down the front and is lined in brown chintz with black stays and a black internal belt with Gimbel Brothers in yellow. Laying flat it measures: bust: 17”, waist 14.5”, sleeves 23”. It is in fair condition with toning to the lace yolk, discoloration to the upper back, 1 seam that has come unsewn on the right side, oxidation to the hook and bar closures at the back collar.
