Antique & Vintage Quilt Collection of Bobbie Aug
Lot 53:
Description
Vintage Pickle Dish or Indian Wedding Ring measuring 78×78″. Comprised of 32 Interlocking rings, 16″ in diameter. staggered, 4.5×4.5, with a 3″ black border. The quilt maker used dark vegetable dyed fabrics in browns, tans, and black, and tan with black print. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. Medium loft cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. This quilt is dated 1845 in the book, but I believe it to be much younger than that. I do not think this pattern is a mid 19th century pattern. It is in poor condition with fabric deterioration and edge wear. This quilt can be seen on page 86 of “Vintage Quilts” co-authored by Bobby Aug. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
