Description
A group of three hand reverse appliqué and appliqué mola panels, each worked in two layers.
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s, 16 x 18 inches
A mola on an orange ground featuring a dense allover composition of alternating vertical rectangular forms with horizontal line fills and circular medallion motifs containing internal geometric patterns, all in dark red. The repeating interplay of rectilinear and circular elements reflects a traditional Guna compositional approach in which contrasting geometric vocabularies are unified across the panel surface.

A black mola on a red ground with repeating concentric teardrop, spiral, and rounded rectangular forms in red, fully covering the panel. The flowing, organic quality of the concentric shapes distinguishes this design from the more angular geometric tradition, creating a rhythmic allover pattern of nested curvilinear channels.
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s, 13.5 x 18
An orange mola on a red ground featuring a grid of interlocking rectangular key fret and spiral forms in dark red. The continuous interlocking maze pattern, in which each spiral connects to its neighbor, is one of the most enduring traditional Guna geometric motifs and produces a strong optical rhythm across the full panel.
