Description
A group of three hand reverse appliqué and appliqué mola panels, each worked in two layers.
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1970s, 11.5 x 17 inches (each panel)
A matched pair of molas on black grounds, each featuring a grid of twelve rectangular labyrinth forms on red ground, with each rectangle containing a set of vertical slit cutouts revealing a different color beneath — including blue, pink, green, yellow, white, purple, orange, and light blue. The systematic use of individually colored fills within a repeating geometric framework reflects the Guna practice of introducing chromatic variety into a structured, uniform composition.
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1970s, 13 x 18.5 inches
A black mola on a red ground featuring bold multicolored letters spelling “CARNABAL 22 DE FEB,” with horizontal and vertical dash fills in varied colors occupying the spaces between and around the letterforms. This lettered mola records a specific Carnival celebration date, exemplifying the Guna tradition of incorporating Spanish text and commemorative inscriptions into the mola format as a form of community record-keeping.

Extensive wear and fading, as well as, a few spots. In house Flat Rate US Shipping of $15 for 1 -10 molas, $5 each additional 10 molas. Insurance is additional and required.
