A group of four hand reverse appliqué and appliqué mola panels, includes 1 matched pair, each worked in three layers.
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1950s, 16 x 19 inches (each panel)
A matched pair of molas on a red ground, each featuring two large mirrored abstract figures in black layered with cream, connected along a central zigzag axis, with a decorative border of rickrack trim, teal, and black strips along the top edge. The bold bilateral symmetry and angular interlocking forms suggest stylized anthropomorphic or zoomorphic figures rendered in the Guna tradition of abstracting natural subjects into geometric frameworks.

A mola on a red ground presenting a grid of twelve repeating x-shaped motifs in gray layered with white, each contained within a rectangular frame. The uniform tessellation of identical forms across the full panel surface exemplifies the Guna tradition of allover repeating geometric patterning at its most disciplined and systematic.

A mola on a red ground with a large central composition of interlocking Fly Foot or cross-shaped motif in gray, pink, and yellow outlines, surrounded by dense labyrinth fills. The combination of a dominant central motif with an allover maze-pattern ground demonstrates the Guna practice of layering two distinct geometric systems within a single panel.
