Description
2 Antique 19th Century Quilts in poor condition. Includes a Star of Bethlehem Quilt in teal, cheddar, and brown, possibly vegetable dyes, measuring 67 x 76 inches. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. Medium loft cotton batting and an off white reverse. The edge is finished with and applied narrow off white binding. It is in poor condition with overall toning, spots, small holes, and wear. There appears to be overall bleeding from the vegetable dyes as well. Along with a 1850 Hexagon Mosaic quilt with zig zag borders, measuring 81x 84 inches. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. Thin cotton batting and a pieced reverse with several brown prints. The edge is finished with the back brought to the front, by machine. It is also in poor condition with overall toning, spots, and many of the brown fabrics deteriorating including the stripe in the borders. This quilt can be seen on page 147 of “Vintage Quilts” co-authored by Bobby Aug. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
