Description
Group of 4 molas with hand reverse appliqué, appliqué, and hand embroidery, constructed in 3 layers.
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s, 18.5 x 22 inches
Burgundy ground with an all-over repeating interlocking angular star or pinwheel form rendered in pink and yellow-green with charcoal accents.
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1970s, 17 x 22 inches
Black ground organized into two rows of mixed card suits— hearts, diamond, clubs,and spades — each individually rendered in multiple layers of orange, yellow, red, pink, purple, blue, and green channel work with multicolored embroidered dash fill throughout.
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s, 15.25 x 20 inches
Charcoal ground with an all-over repeating interlocking cross or plus-form motif rendered in red, orange, and white channel work, creating a dense labyrinthine field across the entire surface. The cross or plus form carries both decorative and potentially symbolic weight in Guna design, appearing consistently across multiple periods of mola production as one of the most enduring geometric units in the tradition.

Red ground with two large mirrored star forms flanking a central vertical axis, each set above a broad concentric rainbow arch, with a small human or spirit figure rendered at the base of the composition in charcoal and gold, the surrounding field densely filled with multicolored bar and dash embroidery throughout. The pairing of celestial star forms with a small figure beneath them suggests a cosmological or ceremonial reading consistent with Guna spiritual iconography.

Condition report:
Poor condition, each mola has extensive holes, fading, wear etc. In house Flat Rate US Shipping of $15 for 1 -10 molas, $5 each additional 10 molas. Insurance is additional and required.
