Group of 4 molas with hand reverse appliqué and appliqué construction throughout, each worked in 2-3 layers.
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s, 11.25 x 16.75 inches
Worked in 2 layers with black ground with bold red channel-work presenting rows of repeating hourglass and double-gourd forms, each containing fine interior line detailing. The strong two-color graphic restraint and dense repetition of this biomorphic unit across the entire surface reflect an early, confident period of Guna design economy.
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1970s, 13.5 x 17 inches
Worked in 3 layers on black ground with two large serpentine S-forms rendered in red and yellow channels, flanked by vertical dash elements along the margins. The monumental scale of the central forms and their bold interlocking double-scroll configuration give this mola a striking graphic authority characteristic of mid-period Guna work.

Worked in 2 layers with red ground featuring two large symmetrical vessel or vase forms framing a central axis, each filled with rows of multicolored appliquéd four-petal flowers and horizontal bar elements in cobalt blue, teal, yellow, pink, and purple. The combination of reverse appliqué structural forms with individually appliquéd floral motifs in a wide range of colors reflects a later, more decorative phase of Guna mola production.
