Description
Group of 3 molas with hand reverse appliqué and appliqué construction throughout, each worked in two to three layers.
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s, 14.5 x 19 inches
Repeating rounded capsule forms arranged in three horizontal rows, worked in three layers, each filled with parallel vertical bars, worked in bright red on a blue ground with yellow channel outlines and a single small purple repair t at center. The allover repeat pattern of enclosed bar-filled forms reflects a traditional Guna approach to rhythmic geometric composition.

Worked in 2 layers with vertical columns of interlocking stepped zigzag forms on a purple ground, worked in red and green with orange channel outlines. The repeating vertical serrated pattern creates a bold optical rhythm characteristic of Guna textile design, with the purple-and-green color combination adding visual depth.

Mirrored abstract shield-like forms on a black ground, worked in 3 layers, each featuring S-spiral head elements above horizontal parallel bars, worked in black with orange and yellow channel outlines and multicolored accent bars in green, purple, and white. The bilateral composition suggests a stylized figure or ceremonial object, a subject common in traditional Guna iconography.
