Description
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s

Boldly conceived narrative mola panel featuring two large confrontational figures set against a dense black ground: a striding male figure outlined in yellow with multicolor reverse-appliqué body striping at left, facing a seated figure wearing a pointed mitre outlined in blue at right, interpreted as a reference to Spanish colonial religious authority. A stylized bird perches between the figures at center, flanked by a large orange triangular form suggesting a mountain or pyramid. Two small cross-form botanical motifs anchor the lower corners. The upper border carries the appliquéd text “CASTILLAS Y EROPA” in multicolor letters, and the lower border bears a mirrored text inscription, underscoring the political and satirical character of the composition. The ground is worked in dense horizontal reverse-appliqué channels throughout. Executed in two layers of black and orange cotton, with appliquéd figures and extensive multicolor embroidered surface detail.

Condition report:
Minor wear consistent with age, including a few areas of loose applique. In house Flat Rate US Shipping of $15 for 1 -10 molas, $5 each additional 10 molas. Insurance is additional and required.
