Description

Amish Reversible Quilt by Frances Abell Brand, is a 2 sided quilt and measures 59×59″, finished in 2001. One side is a medallion style with diagonal bars in the center, and 8 pointed stars in the outer border. The other is a Trip Around the World. Thin cotton batting and a brown print applied binding. Much like an Amish quilt, this reversible Amish-inspired quilt was hand quilted and pieced with her 1948 Singer. Amish Reversible is an example of Amish simplicity and color flow. It is two wall hangings in one. There is a label and sleeve on the one side. Frances Abell Brand (b. 1913, Milton, Massachusetts) is a celebrated American quilt artist whose work is rooted in traditional design, Early American decorative techniques, and the spirit of rural New England. Her quilts are held in the permanent collections of both the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky, and the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts — a distinction earned by only the most accomplished quilt artists. Over more than two decades of juried competition, Frances amassed an extraordinary record of recognition, including awards at the Vermont Quilt Festival for 20 consecutive years and the prestigious Founder’s Award presented by Richard Cleveland in 2006. Her solo exhibition Two Visionaries debuted at the Vermont Quilt Festival in 2000 and subsequently travelled to the National Quilt Museum, and her work has been featured in Good Housekeeping and American Quilter magazines. Each of her handmade heirloom quilts reflects a lifetime of mastery, discipline, and an artist’s deep reverence for America’s quilting heritage.
