Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s

Worked in three layers of reverse appliqué with appliqué and embroidery accents on an orange ground. Symmetrical composition featuring two mirrored stylized plant forms rising from a shared central stem. Elongated leaf pairs with embroidered vein details crown each plant, while eye-shaped seed pods with embroidered leaf patterning anchor the lower register. Polychrome palette of maroon, green, black, blue, yellow, pink, and white achieved through appliqué inserts and geometric filler motifs in the surrounding channels. Fine, consistent hand-stitching throughout. Orange ground with green reverse.
