An exceptional and historically significant narrative mola panel worked in two layers of red cotton with extensive polychrome appliqué and hand embroidery throughout, commemorating the Apollo lunar mission. Embroidered text reading “APOLLO” and “LUNA” appears across the upper register flanking the central composition. The scene is organized across three registers: at upper center, a large fantastical crowned object with outstretched wings surmounts an embroidered vessel or capsule form bearing the inscription “MUNDO” and decorated with heart-shaped pods, triangular elements, and multicolored fringe details. At center, a large black circular form outlined in yellow — representing the inner capsule — contains a reclining figure (the astronaut) depicted beside a black ladder with yellow rungs, the whole surrounded by embroidered interior motifs including cross-stitch details and geometric forms. To the lower left, a green-outlined standing figure in an articulated suit represents a second astronaut; to the lower right, a smaller black appliquéd figure appears amid the field. Throughout, the red ground is saturated with vertical polychrome dash elements. Consistent hand-stitching throughout.
