Description
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s

Boldly worked reverse appliqué, appliqué, and embroidery mola panel featuring two spirit figures joined at the hand and rendered in sweeping labyrinthine channels across the red ground. Each figure bears a distinctive face with square cutwork eyes, an open toothed mouth, and a blue sawtooth halo or headdress, the heads positioned symmetrically at upper left and upper right. The cojoined body is expressed through continuously flowing, maze-like reverse appliqué lines that spiral outward through the torso, limbs, and splayed feet, filling the composition with fluid rhythmic movement. Small embroidered accent elements in purple, pink, teal, gray, and white punctuate the surrounding field. Executed in three layers of red, yellow-green, and orange cotton.

Condition report:
Minor wear, fading, and discoloration consistent with age, as well as, a small hole. In house Flat Rate US Shipping of $15 for 1 -10 molas, $5 each additional 10 molas. Insurance is additional and required.
