Description

Antique 1876 Lemoyne Star Quilt with wonderful and Rare Machine Quilting. It measures 77 by 67 inches. It is comprised of 42 blocks, 11 by 11 inches, set straight, 7 by 6, with 21 9 patches comprised of Lemoyne stars and 21 alternating solid white blocks with intricate machine quilting. It is machine pieced, hand embroidered, and machine quilted. Thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied cheddar print fabric. The quilt is signed and hand embroidery MJ McCullum Made 1876. The quilt has a variety of madder prints, indigo, cheddar, Centennial or aldehyde green, and a Dolly Varden print indicative of the era. The stars are a wonderful small scale! It’s worth mentioning that this quilt was constructed quilt as you go. Which made the machine quilting much easier on a block level as opposed to an entire quilt. The machine quilting features concentric circles and scroll like motifs and other geometric designs. Very unique quilting and rare to find machine quilting in the 19th century!
