The Barren Figtree Spared Quilt at the Request of the Dresser. The center motif was inspired by an original needlework coverlet made by Almira Mason in Preston, New York in 1816. The quilt measures 71×75″. There are a pair of birds below the fig tree. It is framed in an oval with dogtooth triangles, and another frame of leafy vines tied with bows. The background is comprised or 9 Patch blocks. Wonderful 19th century reproduction fabrics were used. It is machine pieced, machine appliqued, and machine quilted. There is a prairie point edge. The quilt is in excellent condition with excellent workmanship. The quilt is signed and dated 2017 by Ellen Rosenbach on a label on the reverse. Please see the About This Auction for her story!
