Description
Antique c1870 Double Irish Chain Quilt measuring 90 by 84 inches. It is comprised of 90 blocks, 9 by 9 inches, set straight, 9 by 10, with 45 checkerboard blocks and 45 alternating blocks. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with the back brought to the front and applied by hand, very narrow edge. It is in good condition with a few small spots and age discoloration. The print is an indigo resist, so this quilt could be earlier. Notice on the alternate blocks the 4 indigo resist squares are appliquéd to the corners, not pieced.
