Description
Vintage American Bicentennial Quilt – Hilliard Elementary School measuring 65 by 97 inches. It is medallion style with a 21 by 22 inch cheater panel center featuring patriotic motifs with a white hand appliquéd Liberty Bell in the center. It is hand embroidered Hilliard Elementary School American Bicentennial, 1776 1976. There is an 11 inch solid red inner frame. And an outer frame consisting of cheater print squares in patriotic colors and motifs, and solid red and blue squares with Eagles and Liberty Bell’s appliquéd. Many of the blocks have a hand embroidered name inscribed in the corner. It is machine pieced, hand and machine appliquéd, hand embroidered, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and a white reverse. The edge is finished with an applied red bias tape binding. There is a sleeve along the back for hanging. This appears to have been a school project to celebrate the bicentennial and as such the workmanship is primitive but quite charming. It appears that the quilting is also incomplete. It is in good condition with just a few small marks. Many of the fabrics may be a cotton poly blend. It is in good condition with a few small spots.
