Description
Antique c1900 Coxcomb and Currants Quilt measuring 76 x 77 inches. It is comprised of 16 blocks, 16 x 16 inches, set straight, 4 by 4, with a 1.5 inch pieced half square triangle sashing, and 4 inch pieced half square triangle border. It is machine pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied off white fabric binding, by machine. Workmanship is very primitive and gives the quilt a folk art aesthetic. It is in fair condition with several spots, other discolorations, and a few tears in the fabrics. I also believe that the currants may have originally been red and other elements may have originally been green, but has faded to tan because of fugitive dyes.
