Description
Antique c1890 New York Beauty Quilt by Fannie Terry Barnes of Putnam County, TN. It measures 69 by 89 inches. It is comprised of 18 blocks, about 13 by 13 inches, set on point and staggered, 3 by 4, with partial block setting and quarter triangles. There is a 3.5 inch triple sashing with solid green down the center and white dogtooth against red on either side. There are white cornerstones with red 9 point stars. There is a solid green border about 1.5 inches wide along the vertical sides. It is hand pieced, and hand quilted, and trapunto or stuffed work, chrysanthemum motifs in the white center of each block and in the red corners of each block. Thin cotton batting and an off white cheesecloth like reverse, possibly tobacco sacking fabric which was used to cover young plants. The edge is finished with an applied red binding, by hand. It is in very good condition with only minor spots and discolorations. If you have any doubt, please ask questions!
