Description
Antique c1900 School House Quilt measuring 63 x 75 inches. It is comprised of 20 blocks, 9.5 x9.5 inches, set straight, 4 by 5, with 5 inch wide shirting sashing and 5 inch wide shirting borders. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. There is an off white cotton reverse and thin cotton batting. The edge is finished with the front brought to the back, and applied by hand. There are so many lovely little details in these houses including the narrow flange to differentiate the sides of the walls, the dimensional doorknobs, and added window details. It is in good condition with minor toning, spots, and one small burn mark in the upper right corner. Minor edge wear along the top. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
