Description
Antique c1850 Signature Quilt measuring 79 x 86 inches. It is comprised of 30 Chimney Sweep blocks, 8.5 x 9 inches, set straight, 5 by 6, and a Garden Maze pattern, 6 inches wide. There is a 1.5 inch madder print outer border. It is hand pieced, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. There is no binding around the quilt, the edges are still raw. The center of each Chimney Sweep block features and inked name inscriptions or signature. Several of the blocks have the city Greenville and Homer. Possibly New York or South Carolina. The quilt is in fair condition with several large spots and additional small spots, but all the Turkey red prints appear to be intact and this would be a wonderful study pieced for genealogy or a quilt detective.
