Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1970s

(1) Guna geometric hourglass mola worked in three layers of reverse appliqué with appliqué accents. Two large hourglass forms flanking a central stylized column motif with a lavender fan element at top. Dense, fully filled composition with sophisticated multi-depth color play in dark gray, yellow, green, orange, blue, and turquoise channels on a dark red ground. Turquoise sawtooth appliqué details and small triangular corner accents throughout. Retains blue and dark sawtooth trim at the neckline.

Guna geometric spiral mola worked in three layers of reverse appliqué with appliqué accents. Bold curvilinear scroll and spiral motifs on a dark red ground with green and pink channels. Small appliqué triangle accents in orange.
