The Parker & Neal Mola Collection - Part 1
Lot 284:
Description
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1970s
14.5 x 19 inches
Reverse appliqué and appliqué mola panel with hand embroidery, featuring two central eagles surrounded by dramatic radiating sun rays extending to all corners. Both birds displaying detailed internal striping. The upper border contains a repeating key pattern in multicolored block letters on a red ground with yellow binding. The radiating design creates a powerful solar or celestial symbolism, with each ray rendered in a different color sequence. Worked in two layers of cotton in black and red, with extensive top-applique details in yellow, blue, pink, purple, orange, and green. Dense sawtooth edging enhances the radiating pattern throughout.
