Description
Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s

Matched pair of reverse appliqué mola panels, each depicting a large seated figure with elaborately embroidered facial features including spiral ear, prominent nose, and open mouth. The figure is shown gripping a handle with outstretched arm, positioned atop what appears to be a waterski rendered in red and yellow with embroidered details. A second smaller figure or implement extends from the opposite arm. The surrounding field is densely filled with rows of multicolored vertical slit-cut bars in blue, pink, yellow, purple, light blue, green, orange, and white against a black cotton ground. Worked in three layers of black, red, and pink cotton with additional appliqué and embroidery accents throughout. Dense hand-stitching with extensive embroidered detail on the figures’ faces, hands, and footwear.

Condition report:
Minor wear and fading consistent with age, small tear on one top corner. In house Flat Rate US Shipping of $15 for 1 -10 molas, $5 each additional 10 molas. Insurance is additional and required.
