Description
Antique 1853 Figured and Fancy Coverlet – Craig Family, Indiana, measuring 75 by 83 inches. The center field is dense with medallions of flowers and leaves with a background of honeycomb and cherries. The side borders features birds feeding their young, urns, and churches. The border along the bottom are various floral motifs. Each of the corners is woven Courthouse and Coppola with the date 1853. This corner design is typical of the Craig family of weavers from Floyd County Indiana. There is a hand stitched center seam. There is no side fringe, top edge is raw, bottom fringe is intact with only minor loss. Their coverlet’s are collected in major museums throughout the country including the Smithsonian, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the McCall collection.
Condition report:
It is in good condition with only minor discoloration notwithstanding the fringe loss along the sides. In house Flat Rate Shipping of $35 is a domestic shipping estimate for first lot and includes insurance. We will gladly combine multiple lots for your convenience and economy.
