Description
Antique 1862 Book of Photographs. This is an antique photo album from 1862 that is called A Book of Photographs by J. E. Tilton and Co from Boston, MA. The book contains lithographs from Sydney, Major, and Knapp on 449 Broadway, NY. There are 26 carte de vistes which are mounted in this photo album with each having their respected photography studio printed on their back. Though the photo album has the year 1862 listed, the photos span from 1860 to around 1870. There are several photos included that has been hand tinted which can be seen with the pink cheeks of several models. Most of the photos that are included are sepia toned with a few being black and white. The pages are securely attached to the spines and the photos have been slid into their respective spots. There are age spots on several photographs which can be seen on the pages as well. Toning is present on the pages. Small rips are present and there are empty frames. The book cover is made out of brown leather with the word album inscribed with gold on the side. The book binding has a rip and the edges shows significant wear. There is an engraved design across the book. This photo album is a wonderful resource for those interested in 19th century photography, fashion of the past, archivists, or other general interests.
