Description
Antique 1840 Coverlet sign on the corner J. Lutz. E – Hempfield Township – For – Henry Fensterman. Hempfield Township is in Lancaster County, PA. The coverlet measures 75 by 87 inches with an additional 5 inch fringe along 3 sides. Ecru linen ground with red, blue, and yellow wool. The Figured and Fancy center field is a Double Lilies and Sunburst pattern. In the border on 3 sides are the Distelfink and Rose Bush pattern. The weaver, Lutz was born around 1806 in Pennsylvania and died in 1861. There is a hand stitched seam down the center of the coverlet. It is in very good condition with only minor discoloration and a few thread pulls., amazing for almost 200 years old.
