Description
Antique c1850 Blue and White Double Woven Figured and Fancy Coverlet measuring 71×91 inches, with a hand stitched seam down the center. The fringe along 3 sides is most likely a 20th century addition, remnants of the original fringe are under it. The center field features birds known as “Birds Feeding this Young” and features pairs of peafowl feeding chicks in a nest over floral and fruit urns. Double border along all 4 sides uses various Federal architectural elements with large buildings, churches, cottages, trees and palm trees and is referred to as “Boston Town” or “Christians and Heathens”. A similar coverlet in the Art Institute Chicago is dated 1851 and signed by Jesse Hart born 1814, died 1894, from Wilmington, Clinton County, Ohio. In good condition the replaced fringe a consideration and minor wear along the top edge. In house Flat Rate Shipping of $35 is a domestic shipping estimate for first lot and includes insurance.
