Description
Antique c1840 Strippy Chintz Quilt measuring 78 by 82 inches. It is comprised of 4 inch bars: a faux ribbon stripe print, a floral on brown print, and pieced half square triangles using both fabrics. It is hand pieced and hand quilted in a Chevron motif. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied print binding. It is in poor condition with wear along the edges, edge to the binding, several worn areas from folding, and a period repair at one corner. Despite its condition is still a wonderful example of an American quilt in the early 19th century.
