Description
Antique c1890 Square in a Square Comfort measuring 75 by 82 inches. It is comprised of 80 square in a Square blocks, 5 by 5 inches, set straight, 8 by 10, with 4 inch vertical stashing and 3 inch horizontal stashing. The stashing is in a variety of prints, giving the quilt a bars arrangement aesthetic. It is hand pieced and hand tied. There is moderate loft cotton batting and a strip be bars back reverse. The edge is finished knife edge style, by hand. It is in fair condition with some spots, toning, minor edge wear, and one early block print fabric is deteriorating. Are dating this quilt to 1890 there are many much earlier fabrics in this comfort, as early as 1830, including and chintz, Prussian blue, early purples, and much more.
