The Fashion Collector’s Auction: Antique, Ethnic & Designer Vintage Clothing & Accessories
Lot 158:
Description
Antique 1700s Embroidered Fragments. The lot consists of six pieces of embroidered fragments from the early 18th century. Featured are six pieces of embroidered fabric fragments from the Tudor/Stuart era. There are two pieces of English crewel embroidery fragments that were used for ladies under garments. They display the type and style of some of the earliest patterns that were used when block printing was used to print yardage. Featured as well are fragments of embroidered bed hangings from the same era. The measurements of the six pieces are as follows: 8.5″x72″, 8″x47″, 9″x40″, 8″x12″, 8.5″x12″, and 10″x14″. Three of the six pieces are pelmets that are in fragile condition with them bearing multiple holes, showing toning from the years, and some water damage as well. One piece shows signs of previous repairs as there is another piece attached where a hole previously was and different shading of threads and patterns. The bed hanging pieces are fragile to the touch and should be handled with care. As for the fragments that were used for ladies under garments, they are in good/fair condition with some toning spots and holes present on an otherwise sturdy pieces of fabric. The crewel embroidery that is featured are in shades of yellow, pink, blue and green. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
