Description
Antique Victorian Crazy Quilt dated 1886. It measures 77 by 61 inches. Comprised of 12 crazy patchwork blocks, 16.5 by 16.5 inches, set straight, 4 by 3, with a 5 inch brown velvet border. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, hand embroidered, hand painted, and hand worked chenille, and hand beating. The quilt contains a variety of motifs including flowers, figures, geographic motifs, and a variety of stitches along every seam in the quilt. Motifs to note is an American flag, chenille work flowers, densely embroidered butterfly, typical spiderweb, a squirrel with a nut, Kate Greenaway figures, and so much more. This is an excellent example of a Victorian crazy quilt. Every time you look at it you will find something new. The reverse is a brown silk. It is tied along the block seams with red silk ribbon. Condition is fair with some wear to the velvet in the border, and several silks are starting to shatter, about 20 different pieces. The reverse is also starting to have condition issues with several splits in various areas. In house Flat Rate Shipping of $30 is a domestic shipping estimate for first lot and includes insurance.
