Description
Antique c1880 Democrat Rose Variation measuring 79 by 79 inches. It is comprised of 4 blocks, 30.5 by 30.5 inches, set straight, 2 x 2, with a 1.5 inch red inner border and an 8 inch tassel and swag appliquéd outer border. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with the front brought to the back, and applied by hand. It is in poor condition with overall toning, small holes in and around the inner red border in one area, discoloration, and the tan most likely was originally green. This quilt was found in Maine and has been exhibited in a Maine quilt show. The proceeds for the sale of this quilt will benefit the American Quilt Study Group 2025 annual seminar in Portland Maine this year.
