Description
Antique c1870 Whig Rose Quilt measuring 93 by 95 inches. It is comprised of 4 blocks, 34 by 35 inches, set straight, 2 x 2 with a 2 inch sawtooth inner border and a 10 inch small brown print outer border. The background for the appliquéd blocks is the same small brown print. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and a plaid print reverse. The edge is finished with and applied green fabric binding by hand. It is in good condition with overall toning, minor spots, and discolorations. On the back is a hand stitched label with the name N L Bachman. From the estate of Sharon Stark, noted Pennsylvania textile dealer and award winning author.
