Description
Antique c1850 Carolina Lily Quilt with Lapis Blue and Turkey Red Prints. It measures 90 by 92 inches. It is comprised of 25 blocks, 9.5 by 9.5 inches, set on point, 5 by 5, with plain white alternating squares and setting triangles. There is a 1.5 inch inner sawtooth border, a 9 inch plain white border, and a 1.5 inch sawtooth outer border. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and a white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with the back brought to the front, and applied by hand. The quilting is wonderful in this quilt with an undulating vine around the border with clusters of grapes, leaves, and other motifs. It is in fair condition with several small spots, yellow discolorations, and the Turkey red print is disintegrating. The lapis blue print is wonderful.
