Description
This Antique Star of Bethlehem Quilt has over 700 embroidered name inscriptions, dated 1913, and was made by the Zwingli YP Society of Christ Reformed Church, Jefferson, PA, York County. It measures 80 by 84 inches. It is hand pieced, hand embroidered, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with the front brought to the back, and applied by hand. The names are inscribed in the center of each diamond, and arranged nicely in the alternating white spaces, and border. The Rev. and Mrs. NW Sechler appear at the top along with the Henry family. Other family names include Stauffer, Dill, Menges, Wherly, Myers, Hartman, and hundreds more. It is in good condition with some fading, spots, and other discoloration. From the estate of Sharon Stark, noted Pennsylvania textile dealer and award winning author.
