Description
19th Ladies Brown Velvet Coat c1870. The lot features 1, 19th century brown velvet coat c1870. Featuring a shell made of high pile dark brown silk velvet with period details and styling. Such as a high stand up collar, wide sleeves with cuffs, a fitted waist, 2 long tailoring tails at the front, and a short back with a slight peplum to accommodate one’s bustle. The long tails feature brown and black passementerie medallions with brown mink centers and teardrop dangles. The entire bottom hem of the coat is trimmed in velvet balls. The front of the coat closes with 17 heavy duty hook and eye closures. It is lined in a deep plum silk and has 1 small inner pocket. Laying flat it measures: bust 18”, waist 15”, sleeves 23”, front length 43”, back length 23”. The coat is in fair condition with left cuff coming unsewn, wear to the silk lining at the collar and cuffs, open seams at the underarms, and several missing balls on the trim. Please see the photos.
