Description
Late 19th Century Blue Wool Coat c1900. The lot includes 1 late 19th century ladies full length blue wool coat from Chandler & Co in Boston. Featuring a shell made of fine blue wool, military style black braid and cord trim, a sailor collar, wide lapels, puffed sleeves, and black silk covered buttons. As well as unique inserts at the front that create a faux vest and are covered in silk and metallic embroidery in a mix of nouveau geometric patterns reminiscent of the paintings of Gustav Klimt. The coat has a black fleece mid layer and was once lined in navy blue silk which has mostly disintegrated. Laying flat the coat measures: bust 15.5”, waist 16.5”, sleeve 21”, length 45′. The coat is in good/fair condition a missing lining, 1 missing half of its front hook and bar closure, and wear to the nouveau feau vest. Please see the photos.
