Description
Antique c1860 Sunburst Rainbow Quilt measuring 100×91″. You will not find this block in any book, it is definitely one of a kind and we have taken the liberty to name it. It is comprised of 3 semi circle blocks 21×10.5″ along the bottom, and then clamshell shaped blocks, staggering up to the top with partial setting blocks along the sides and top. Each block has an arc of turkey red pieced dogtooth, a brown print arc, a yellow print arc, a solid red arc, a double pink print arc, a double process green solid arc, and a green pieced dogtooth arc. As if that was not enough triangles, the maker then created a border with the same arrangement, twice, with a white solid border between them. It is hand pieced and hand quilted with double line quilted feather arcs in the background spaces. There is thin cotton batting and a white cotton solid reverse. The edge is finished with a very narrow applied green fabric binding, by hand. The quilt is believed to be from Delaware where it was purchased. It is in fair condition. The “brown” fabric I believe was originally purple and has gone fugitive, and is deteriorating, overall, in the arcs and in the borders. There are also a few spots.
