Description
Antique c1860 Crown of Thorns Quilt believed to have been made by Caroline “Carrie” S Ellis born in Taunton, Bristol, MA. It measures 74 by 90 inches. It is comprised of 20 blocks, 14.5 by 14.5 inches, set straight, 4 by 5, with 1.5 green print stashing, inner border and a 4.5 inch white border with appliquéd undulating vine and leaf on 3 borders. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and a white cotton reverse the edge is finished with an applied red fabric binding, by machine. The name Carrie S Ellis is hand stenciled in Inc. on the reverse twice. It is in good condition with a few small spots, and large faint yellow discolorations, and one seam is coming undone. The quilt comes with some provenance with family history and ancestry research. From a NJ collector and historian. If you have any doubt, please ask questions!
