Description
Antique c1860 Lyre Quilt measuring 85 x 84 inches. It is comprised of 25 blocks, 17 x 17 inches, set straight, 5 by 5. The center of each block is a hand appliqué harp or lyre instrument , with a cut work heart at each corner. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and an over dyed green print reverse. The edge is finished with an applied madder print binding, by hand. It is in good condition with some fabric deterioration in the center fold, minor fade line discoloration, and small spots. The Turkey red fabric in the blocks is intact. Really unique to see a green background! There is a label on the back indicating that this was documented at the Goschenhoppen historians quilt documentation event. The quilt comes with some provenance with family history and ancestry research, Maybelle Shantz family from PA. From a NJ collector and historian. If you have any doubt, please ask questions!
