Description
Antique c1825 Caesar’s Crown Quilt measuring 92 x 95 inches. It is comprised of 36 blocks, 13 by 13 inches, set straight, 6 by 6, with 18 pieced Caesar’s Crown blocks and 18 alternating solid off white squares. There is a 6.5 inch striped floral chintz border. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with the front brought to the back, and applied by hand. The quilted feathered wreaths in the alternating squares are stuffed work or Trapunto. It is in poor condition with severe fabric deterioration in the border fabric, the back has a large bleached area, and there is a small repair on the front. The quilt was believed to have been made at the York Girls School in York PA.If you have any doubt, please ask questions!
