1780 French Printed Toile- 4 Pieces. The group includes 4 pieces of very rare French copperplate printed black and white toile. It is considered a time conscious themed toile depicting pastoral scenes of farm work progressing from early in the day activities at the top with the phrase matin or morning hidden on a trough, to midi or midday lunch and nap, to soir (evening) the evening chores. the pieces measure: 2 pieces measure 14” x 1 yard 25”, 1 piece 15” x 24.5”, 1 piece 14.5 x 1 yard 24”. A reproduction of this toile is featured on page 31 of “Toile: The Storied Fabrics of Europe & America”. 3 out of the 4 pieces are in good condition with general toning and storage line discoloration. 1 piece is in fair condition with tears, holes, toning, spots, and storage line discolorations. Please see the photos. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
