Description
Vintage c1940s Flower Basket Quilt measuring 76×78″, tag states from Pittsburgh, PA, possibly finished in c1960s. It is comprised of 9 blocks, 14.5×14.5″, set on point, 3 by 3, with off white setting squares and triangles. There is a triple border with off white and brown zig zag stripes on either side of the off white solid middle border, 6.5″ wide, with 9 patch corners. It is hand and machine pieced, hand appliqued, hand embroidered, and hand quilted. Thin polyester batting and off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished. with an applied solid brown binding. The negative space has the quilted motifs on the similar spaces, zig zag in the inner border, and baskets of flowers in the setting squares. It is in good condition with a few seams coming undone, an easy fix! There is a sleeve for hanging attached to the back along the top of the quilt. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
