Description
Antique c1840 Printed Cotton Chintz in a pillar print, English, of the type printed as a furnishing fabric. It measures 60 by 23 inches. It is printed on a light blue ground in madder red, crimson, maroon, chrome yellow, orange, and green. The design runs in vertical stacks of fluted classical columns banded with ornamental scrollwork, each column capped by a cluster of cabbage roses, peonies, and chrysanthemums with turning autumn foliage, and the blue ground between the columns is filled with trailing sprays of small yellow centered wild roses and leaves. The printing combines fine engraved line, stipple, and cross hatch in the reds and maroons with flat blocked yellow and green. A glaze appears to remain across parts of the surface.
Condition report:
It is in fair condition with color that remains strong and unfaded throughout, what appear to be splits along several old fold lines, scattered brown specks and small stains, a few loose threads, and uneven cut edges. In house Flat Rate Shipping of $20 is a domestic shipping estimate for first quilt and includes insurance. We will gladly combine multiple quilts for your convenience and economy.
